The Sea of Monsters is the second book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series written by Rick Riordan. In this story, the tree that protects the borders of Camp Half-Blood has been poison by an unknown intruder. A quest must be done to find The Fleece, the only object that can safe the tree, before the demigods loose the only save haven they have ever known. Percy takes this quest, although the quest had been given to Clarisse, to save his friend Grover from the Cyclops Polyphemus. Grover had created an empathy link between Percy and him, so Percy could see Grover in his dreams and know when he was in trouble. Percy, Annabeth and Percy's lost little brother, a baby cyclops named Tyson, sneak out of camp and catch a ship named The Princess Andromeda which, they later found out, is owned by Luke who is helping the Titan Kronos overthrown Olympus. Luke and his army almost kill them but they are saved by Clarisse, who has a ship of her own, the CSS Birmingham, a gift from her father. During an explosion, the CSS Birmingham enters the sea of monsters, known to mortals as The Bermudas Triangle. This sea has several islands, each one which a different monster they have to overcome: the Circes, the Sirens, Polyphemus, etc...

This quarter I read Rick Riordan's The Lightning Thief. This amazing story takes place in a camp call Half-Blood Hill. The kids who assist to this camp are all demigods, that means they're the children from a god and a mortal. Percy Jackson doesn't know he is not a normal kid, he learns that the hard way when a monster from the Underworld attacks him while he is at a school trip. Luckily Grover, a satyr sent by the camp organizers to protect Percy, is with him at the moment because they're best friends. Percy's mother, Sally, gets kidnapped by Hades when she hurries to get her son to camp where he will be save. Percy gets to camp where he meets a bunch other half-bloods, Luke (Hermes's son), Clarisse (Ares's daughter), Annabeth (Athena's daughter) and many more. Percy refers to this camp as his home because it is the only place where he found people like him, problem makers with dyslexia. After being claimed as the son of Poseidon, Percy is assigned a quest to save the world from a war between his father and Zeus. Percy's quest consists on going to the Underworld to find Zeus's bolt which Hades took, but framed Poseidon. Percy just accepts the quest because he has the hope that maybe he can get his mother back. Annabeth and Grover volunteer to go with him. They fight many monsters along the way, but the made it to the Underworld just to find out that the bolt had been in their backpack all the way along with Hades's helm. Now they are the ones who got framed, the question is: by who..? This book is totally worth reading, because it taught me what heroes really are: people who put others before themselves, even strangers. This book is super fun because it mixes an old, boring topic (Greek Mythology) with today's events like people with learning issues like dyslexia or kids getting kicked out of boarding schools or children never meeting their parents. I also love this book because it justifies why us humans don't see anything unusual that can lead us to think that Gods and Goddesses really exists: this thing call the Mist, blurs our brain when something that involves mythology is happening and makes us think that something that we can actually understand is happening. I would recommend this book for people who like both, mystery and adventure, and people who love mythology and fantasy. Lesson 48/51: Simple, Compound and Complex Sentences.Simple Sentences |

Have you ever wonder what are the biggest, heaviest lizards on earth? Well...here's your answer: KOMODO DRAGONS. Unfortunately this amazing creatures are just found in Indonesia's Lesser Sudan Islands and it wasn't until about 100 years ago that scientists discover them although they have existed for millions of years. Full-grown Komodo Dragons can weight more than 300 pounds and reach 10 feet long! But most interesting of all a female Komodo dragon can lay up to 30 eggs, each one containing a gigantic creature!
"They are powerful-looking reptiles with wide, flat heads, rounded snouts, bowed legs, and huge, muscular tails. They have a clumsy, back-and-forth walk, and their yellow tongues flick in and out constantly". says the National Geographic Kids's article on Komodo dragons.
They are, of course, the dominant predators in the islands. They eat anything they found, even if it's dead. "They pounce on their prey with powerful legs and sharp claws, then sink their jagged, sharklike teeth in". says the same article from the paragraph above. The Komodo dragon's saliva has a big amount of bacteria which poisons their victims within 24 hours. After all they eat, it's no big deal the fact that the 80% of their body weight comes from their foods. Finally, this dragons have a thick, gritty skin that protects them from weather conditions.

Milena and Alberto. Those are the names of my paternal grandparents. Jorge, Oscar and Gloria. Those are their kids. Well, technically their not kids anymore. This are the kids: Emmanuel, Laura, Juan Sebastian, Juanita, Federico, Juan José and Sarita. Emmanuel and Juan José are Jorge's. Juanita and Sarita are Oscar's. Laura, Juan Sebastian and Federico are Gloria's. And together we are the Muñoz Family. Known for being united, clumsy, kind, loud and silly. But this are just words on a paper, you'd have to meet my family to understand how wonderful they are.
Stella and Alvaro. Those are my maternal grandparents. Alvaro past away last year, but he's still in our hearts and as long as none of us forget him, he's not dead yet. Francisco, Betty, Olga, Mauricio and Alejandro. Those are my mother and her siblings. Betty is the mother of Juan Alejandro, but we call him Juancho to shorten it. Olga is my sister Sarita's mom and mine too. Mauricio is the father of Juan Sebastian. Alejandro is Sofia's and Juan Jose's father. And together we are the Giraldo Family. Known for being smart, supportive, warm-hearted, talented,old-fashioned (and I mean it in a nice way), etc... But once again, this are just words on a paper. Describing how amazing my family is, is almost impossible with having meet them first.
I'm super grateful for having so many wonderful people on my side. For having two families that are completely different and each amazing in their own way.

There's a difference between Roman gods and Greek gods, and it's not just their names. For example: Greek gods are known to live or/and rule 700 before the Roman civilization, and Roman gods came 1000 years after the Greeks. Greek gods are based on human personality traits like Love, Honor, Hatred, Dignity, etc... while Roman gods are named after objects. Greek mythology is about creativity rather than physical work. But Roman gods focused on their actions more than on their words.
the god's name changes depending whether is on Greek or Roman. for example: The Greek god of the sky and king of the gods, Zeus, is called Jupiter in a roman form. And Hades, ruler of the Underworld and god of dead is called Juno. Greek god Aphrodite is Venus. Gaea is Terra. Artemis is Diana. However, not ALL the names change, Apollo, The Greek god of the sun, prophecy, music, and healing (son of Zeus; twin of Artemis) is called Apollo in Roman form as well. And Iris (daughter of Thaumas and Electra), The Greek goddess of the rainbow and a messenger of the gods, is Iris in Roman form too.
The series "The Heroes of Olympus" By Rick Riordan is a wonderful place to learn about the differences of this two different kinds of gods. Greek and Roman mythology, adventure, romanticism, and a little of mystery is just the perfect mix.

Lesson 2: Capitalization Rules
Capitalize words
Haymitch Abernathy is a main character from the Suzanne Collins's series "The Hunger Games". Haymitch was the only victor from district twelve until Katniss and Peeta came along. On most of the chapters where Haymitch participates, he is wasted. As the time passes and Katniss gets to know him better, she understands he drinks to forget and tries to escape from the world he lives in. He is also Katniss's and Peeta's mentor. That means he helps them get sponsors and survive when they're in the arena.
Haymitch is my favorite character from the Hunger Games because I realize he doesn't just teaches Katniss and Peeta to survive but he does his best to heal their hearts from their losses. He seems rude, but all he's doing is trying to make them forget. He becomes like a father to Katniss, though he broke their deal on the Quarter Quell. He is, also, pretty funny, he makes me laugh whenever he makes fun of Katniss (like eating her lunch when she was unconscious or making fun of her performance in district 13).
